TAFE Queensland has launched Australia’s largest vocational education scholarship program with half a million dollars in industry–based scholarships to help students meet their career goals.

Over the next three years, 100 scholarships worth $5,000 each will be awarded to applicants who are looking to begin or further their education at TAFE Queensland.

TAFE Queensland CEO Jodi Schmidt said the scholarships will remove some of the barriers to gaining a qualification, in particular the cost of studying.

“We know the power vocational education has to change people’s lives and help them achieve extraordinary things - something TAFE Queensland, Australia’s leading vocational education provider, has been doing for more than 130 years," she said.

“These scholarships will provide an opportunity for people from all over Queensland to develop their skills and gain a qualification that is in demand in industry.

“Two types of scholarships will be available. The first are merit scholarships aimed at supporting people who have demonstrated strong levels of achievement to advance their careers.

“The second are access and equity scholarships designed to help students who for a range of social and financial factors may not have been provided the access to study required to make great happen in their own lives."

Applications for the first round of TAFE Queensland scholarships opened yesterday and will close on Friday, June 26, 2015, with a second round available later in 2015.

Scholarships will be offered to study TAFE Queensland qualifications from Certificate III to Advanced Diploma level. The scholarships are awarded for students who are committed to qualifications in specific industries.

The industries cover a broad range of trades including business services, construction skills, electro-technology, automotive and engineering.
