Australia will contribute to the first report of the newly launched Global Commission for Business and Sustainable Development by participating in a panel discussion to be held in Sydney this Thursday, July 28, 2016.

The event will be attended by some of Australia's most prominent business and sustainability leaders and will contribute to the Commission's first report to be released in January 2017.

Launched earlier this year the Commission aims to accelerate the transition to a more prosperous, sustainable economy.

The Commission will demonstrate how the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide the private sector with a framework for achieving this market shift.  The flagship report will serve as the foundation to launch a number of activities to drive progress towards the SDGs and capitalise on the momentum created by the Paris Climate Agreement.

Unilever is hosting the Mobilising Collective Action panel which will be directed by a number of high profile industry leaders around five key sustainable development goals.

Last year Australia joined 600 Unilever sites globally in achieving zero waste to landfill through a strategy of reduction,
recycling and recovery.

Speakers include Sustainable Business Australia CEO, Andrew Peterson, Climate Institute CEO, John Connor and the former Sex Discrimination Commissioner and founder and convenor of Male Champions of Change, Elizabeth Broderick.

Since the Commission was formally established at the World Economic Forum at Davos this year, Commissioners include Grundfos CEO, Mads Nipper, Temasek CEO, Ho Ching, GSMA director general Mats Granryd, Ericsson CEO, Hans Vestberg and Harvard Business School's Warren Alpert professor, Laura Alfaro.
