The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) will host a series of seminars on the essential elements of metering system design, installation, commissioning and maintenance throughout the month of March.

It is one of the most comprehensive seminars ever held in Australia and New Zealand on the subject of smart metering and should be attended by building services engineers, contractors, building owners and managers.

Keynote speaker, CIBSE UK technical director, Dr Hywel Davies, will launch a new edition of TM39 on Building Energy Metering.

"It is impossible to manage what isn't measured," Davies said. "Good metering is an essential component of high performing buildings."

A copy of the book will be made available to attendees with Paul Banister and Caoimhin Ardren of Energy Action explaining how TM39 relates to NABERS. Banister will explain what good metering design looks like and address key implementation issues.

Other speakers include Mirvac's David Palin, AMP's Chris Nunn and EPT's Bruce Precious.

Representatives of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and NABERS will share information on recent tool updates.

Mirvac is the first commercial office building to get a 6 Star NABERS Energy rating while Paul Dearlove of IBMS will talk about the pointy end of metering from installation challenges, validation, commissioning and the tricks of making it all work.

Palin will close the event with a summary of key learnings and final observations.

The first seminar will be held in Perth (WA) on March 14, 2017 and will be followed by a seminar in Melbourne (VIC) on March 16 and Auckland (NZ) on March 21, 2017.

The seminar comes to Sydney (NSW) on March 23. Dr Davies will present short, technical talks on metering in Adelaide (SA) on March 15 and Brisbane (QLD) on March 22, 2017.
