Last week’s Chillventa 2016 attracted 32,206 trade visitors, another record for the Nuremberg refrigeration and air conditioning exhibition.

The new record, which is a five per cent increase on 2014, was announced by the organiser following the biennial three-day event which closed last Thursday.

Chillventa exhibition director, Daniela Heinkel, said the proportion of international exhibitors is more than 67 per cent.

"Chillventa is now not just the platform where trade visitors and exhibiting companies meet and share knowledge, it is also a drawcard for all the major industry associations as well as German and international journalists," Heinkel said.

"Every two years, the refrigeration, AC, ventilation and heat pump community flocks to Chillventa to nurture and expand their networks and do business.

"Chillventa is an event for experts by experts with a clear thematic focus, connecting experts at home and abroad." As well as product announcements there were renowned experts presenting more than 120 talks on cutting-edge topics.

There was an additional 8,850m² of exhibition floor space and a total of 982 exhibitors. Chillventa 2018 will take place from Tuesday, October 16 to Thursday, October 18, again in Nuremberg. Following is a roundup of announcements made during the 2016 event.

Magnetic refrigeration company, Cooltech Applications implemented a fully equipped magneto-caloric display cabinet
at Carrefour’s head office restaurant for a four-week period, a world premiere.

The magnetic cooling system (MRS) utilizes a water coolant instead of a refrigerant gas and the technology cuts energy consumption by up to 50 per cent, reduces noise and boosts reliability and safety.

Meanwhile, Honeywell announced that the 15,000th supermarket has retrofitted its refrigeration systems with Genetron Performax LT (full story in the November edition of CCN magazine).

Chillventa also celebrated new industry milestones. For example, Daikin Industries has received the highest rank of Platinum Certification in the LEED for a New Contrustion rating system for its Technology and Innovation Centre. It is the first time a large-scale office building has reached this level of green certification in Japan.

Daikin Industries also announced plans to build a commercial air conditioning equipment plant in Malaysia. The plant will be constructed on the outskirts of the capital, Kuala Lumpur, with initial investment projected to top $29.3 million.

The factory will produce large air conditioning units beginning in 2018 for installation in airports and commercial facilities.

Secop showcased the latest in variable speed drive and hydrocarbon compressors.
