Winner of the 2018 male Rising Star Award and Engie Services technician, Mitchell Beattie, is a mechanically-minded fix it man.

He loves being a service technician and colleagues brag about his exceptional skills.

They claim he excels at chiller fault finding and fine-tuning for maximum efficiency which is why customers are routinely singing his praises.

But it isn't just his technical ability that makes him a Rising Star, its his dedication and commitment to a job well-done.

Beattie's idea of a big weekend is being called to Singapore Friday night to commission new Quantum water cooled chillers and by Sunday he is in Singapore at a new site leak testing a damaged chiller.

This is in addition to providing customers with value add-ons and energy saving tips which might explain all the positive appraisals from happy clients.

Beattie began his apprenticeship at Trilogy before moving to Engie.

His interest in acquiring new skills and applying his new-found knowledge as a technician is the driver behind his focus on upskilling and the ongoing tuition.

He is passionate about putting himself at the forefront of new technology.

Beattie isn't exactly an old-timer but his ability means he is going on-site for a range of customers and assisting their technicians to ensure they also deliver great results.

According to his employer, it isn't just his skills that make him exceptional, Beattie takes on every task and request without complaint and best of all, customers are always 100% satisfied.

Now that's a good result. “Mitch is a person who absorbs knowledge to succeed in his profession. He also assists younger members coming through even though he is only 26 years old,” his manager says.

“He is passionate about delivering maximum efficiency from the units he is working on.

“For someone who is still so young in the trade, it is remarkable.”

This year's Rising Star Award was once again sponsored by ABB. The company's HVAC segment manager, Paul Burrows, said ABB would like to congratulate Mitchell Beattie for taking out the male category of the Rising Star Award.

"ABB recognises the importance of the Rising Star category which uncovers the high performers within HVACR. Award programs can help motivate young people to strive even more," Burrows said.
