Potential energy savings from upgraded refrigeration plants can be as high as 46 per cent, according to the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH).

To improve energy efficiency and operational costs for industrial refrigeration plants, the OEH has released a Guide to Industrial Refrigeration for anyone involved in the operation of industrial refrigeration and process cooling systems.

It outlines 15 technologies to increase the energy efficiency of a plant, with estimated annual energy savings, capital costs and payback periods.

This guide provides examples to help operators, engineers and managers of significantly sized refrigeration plants to: understand the refrigeration technologies available to improve energy efficiency; develop a strategy to minimise energy use; and undertake an industrial refrigeration upgrade.

Highlights of the guide will be published in upcoming issues of CCN magazine.
