The Australian Refrigeration Association (ARA) has announced the resignation of its president, Tim Edwards, who has stepped down for health reasons.

Edwards, who has been a passionate and high profile advocate for the industry group for the past five years, has been replaced by Ian Tuena of CA Group Services.

In a formal announcement to ARA members, Tuena said: "This is to let you know that I will be taking up the reins of the Australian Refrigeration Association as president, effective immediately, supported by a revitalised Board.

"Tim Edwards has served in this role for the past five years. The ARA Board and I thank Tim for the contribution he made in establishing the ARA and causing the HVACR industry to consider the value of natural refrigerant based technology.

"As a key stakeholder, we assure you that the ARA Board is committed to increasing the effectiveness of the ARA."

Tuena said there is enormous potential for improvement in HVACR services in Australia.

"We understand that we need for far greater participation by industry stakeholders in delivering the cost savings and emissions reduction made possible by natural refrigerant based technology. It is a challenge we are asking you to contribute to and welcome your support," he said.

In his final remarks as president, Edwards said amendments to the Montreal Protocol call for global adoption of high efficiency, low emissions HVACR technology.

"Australia has the ability and need to lead this opportunity in the national interest…and it needs to happen now."

During his five years as ARA president Edwards has certainly been effective and at times, controversial. He steps down at an important time, but can move on knowing that his contribution has made a difference.

Edwards was also a supporter of CCN's HVACR Leadership Awards with the ARA sponsoring the energy savings category a couple of years in a row. CCN wishes him and his family, all the best for the future.
