Chemours has named Paul Kirsch president of its Fluoroproducts business.

Kirsh will replace Thierry Vanlankcer, who is planning to retire.

Chemours CEO, Mark Vergnano, said Thierry has been instrumental in the transformation of its fluoroproducts business, which is part of the company's five point transformation plan.

The business reported $531 million in sales in the first quarter of 2016, down from $552m during the same period last year.

Vergnano did not confirm rumours the company is set to build the world’s largest HFO refrigerant facility at its Corpus Christi site in Ingleside, Texas.

According to media reports the new $230m plant will triple Chemours’ capacity to produce HFO-1234yf and other low GWP refrigerant blends with work set to commence in 2018.

Chemours said it will need to expand capacity as the company estimates that 40 million cars using R1234yf will be on the road by end of 2017, growing to 140 million by end of 2020.

In addition, it says that 1,000 commercial supermarket refrigeration systems worldwide will be using Opteon XP40 by end of 2016, growing to as many as 10,000 systems by end of 2020.
