The building services industry gathered at the Melbourne Museum last week for the ANZ Young Engineers Awards.

Organised by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), the 2019 awards featured nine students and young engineers from Australia and New Zealand competing for three award categories.

CIBSE Young Engineers Network chair, Sian Willmott, said CIBSE received entries from 12 different consultancies and three universities across Victoria, NSW, South Australia, Queensland, Christchurch and Auckland.

The Mark Griffin Award for Student of the Year, which is sponsored by Aecom, went to Mitchell Peatman, Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical), University of Wollongong/Northrop Consulting Engineers.

Sponsored by VOS Group Consulting Engineers, the CIBSE ANZ Graduate of the Year Award went to Aaron Hoare, WSP Sustainability Consultant.

Electrical engineer at Northrop Consulting Engineers, Tommy Sailing, won the Jack Pirie Award –Young Engineer of the Year.

CIBSE thanked event partners Acor, Arup, Aurecon, Conex Banninger, Constructive Recruitment, Daikin, Norman Disney & Young and Wood & Grieve Engineers as well as award sponsors AECOM, Northrop and VOS Group, who share CIBSE’s goal to encourage young engineering talent towards building services solutions

The 2020Young Engineers Awards will open for entries again in November.
