Private industrial gas company, Messer, has signed a landmark long-term sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with QatarEnergy for the annual supply of 100 million cubic feet of high-purity helium.
The product will be sourced from QatarEnergy's world-class facilities in Ras Laffan and delivered to Messer customers across the world.
This milestone agreement marks Messer's first direct long-term partnership with QatarEnergy, one of the world's largest producers of helium.
By diversifying sources and strengthening supply chains, Messer is ensuring its customers benefit from enhanced reliability and long-term security of supply of this rare gas.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, attended by senior leaders from both companies, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, president and CEO of QatarEnergy, said Messer is a leading global supplier of helium with a strong reputation and diverse assets.
“We are delighted to enter into our first direct supply agreement with Messer and to continue providing high-quality helium to the world through reliable partners,” he said.
Helium is an essential building block for advanced technologies and industries, including medical imaging and other healthcare applications, semiconductors, quantum computing, fibre optics, and space exploration.
Messer's recent acquisition of the former Federal Helium System in the United States secured its position as a major global helium player. This agreement with QatarEnergy expands Messer's sourcing portfolio, strengthening its global reach.
Bernd Eulitz, global CEO of Messer SE & Co. said through this agreement, Messer's customers will gain greater confidence in consistent, high-quality supply to power their business and innovations.
“Most importantly, it reinforces our commitment to customers by ensuring the secure and reliable delivery of helium they need to support their long-term growth,” Eulitz said.
Messer is the largest privately held industrial gas business in the world and a leading industrial and medical gas company in North America, South America, Asia and Europe.
Messer Americas sales account for 52% of Messer’s worldwide sales of over $US4.8 billion.
