The Victorian Government is set to partner with land developers and home builders in a $2.18 million pilot program to boost the supply of zero net carbon homes in Melbourne’s growth areas.

Eligible home builders must be able to demonstrate that they achieve more than 200 site starts a year.

Sustainability Victoria (SV) will work with the home builders to deliver cost competitive and appealing zero net carbon homes that are available direct to the market.

SV modelling shows that a zero net carbon home could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by around six tonnes a year, up to 50 per cent less than that of a standard home.

Sustainability Victoria CEO, Stan Krpan, said by participating in the Zero Net Carbon Homes Pilot, builders can offer their customers homes that are affordable to heat and cool and provide year-round comfort.

Just this week ABB showcased its smarter homes, buildings and mobility portfolio at the Light + Building 2018 event in Germany.

ABB demonstrated how it enables customers to improve sustainable energy usage, safety & security and comfort across a range of building types.

Tarak Mehta, president of ABB's electrification products division said its range of new products and solutions span the full electrification chain of smarter energy management through to e-mobility.

“Our focus is on developing solutions across residential and commercial buildings, facilitating increased energy efficiency, comfort, convenience and security for end users,” Mehta said.

Broadening its reach in to KNX-automated HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning), ABB unveiled the new ClimaECO offering for commercial buildings, designed to improve energy efficiency by up to 30 per cent.
