The future of compressor development

Bitzer’s German HQ has a responsive, structured approach to product development and in recent times has maintained focus on three main areas relating to compressor development: low GWP / natural refrigerants; efficiency increase in full and part load; and user-friendliness in design and service.
The high efficiency OS95 open type screw compressor is no exception. An industrial workhorse, the OS95 NH3 compressor manages up to 1015 m3/h at 2900rpm making it the ideal choice to balance efficiency gains with low environmental impact.
The OS95 is designed for large commercial and industrial applications as well as marine refrigeration systems. A product that shines under pressure, the OS95 Series offers high cooling capacity and performance coefficients both with and without economizer operation.
The high performance of the OS95 dovetails neatly with Bitzer’s global trend forecast which sees ammonia becoming more widespread in reaction to the new EU Regulations, and energy efficiency standards becoming more stringent across the board.
Systems very rarely operate at full load and therefore operational efficiency at part load is of great importance. Bitzer has released a new horizontal scroll compressor, machined out of aluminium which is incredibly light with the smallest option less than 10kg.
The compressor has been designed for both stationary and mobile refrigeration and AC installations. They have been designed with flexibility in mind with different motors available to accept several different voltages, from 460V, 50 or 60Hz down to as low as 24V!
They feature permanent magnet motors and built-in suction cooled inverters for operation between 2,500 and 9,000 RPM. With the permanent magnet motor, we see efficiency of the motor far in excess of other inverter driven compressors.
With the on board inverter, there is no requirement for the external DC motor inverter that is typically seen on other similar compressors, cutting system complexity. Furthermore, these are designed with refrigeration applications in mind, with operation allowable down as low as -20C.
