Applied Air Services apprentice, Janae Smyth, stumbled into the trade by accident. She was originally planning to be an electrician.
“I grabbed the job because it was my first opportunity to get a trade and I am so glad I did,” Janae says. “I thought some employers would be hesitant to employ a female but luckily I was wrong.”
The 21 year old says her concerns about being female were completely unfounded and she is now in the third year of her apprenticeship.
“I am progressing towards the last year of my apprenticeship so there is extra responsibility and I also report to clients,” she says.
Janae is planning to complete her trade and also undertake an electrical apprenticeship to have a dual trade.
“Eventually I would like to start my own business and take on other apprentices that have the same passion for learning.”
