CCN editor, Sandra Rossi, explains why its smooth sailing ahead for the HVACR industry.
We’ve all seen the hysterical media headlines warning about the dangers of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Then there are the sci-fi movies that feature autonomous robots taking over the world and enslaving mankind.
While these headlines and movies are created to entertain, the reality isn’t as apocalyptic.
This is especially true for anyone working in HVACR.
We know this technology is driving workforce changes, AI will replace 92 million jobs globally by 2030.
But its also providing ample opportunity.
For technicians, AI will simply enhance daily work with smart tools, remote support and proactive maintenance.
Digital infrastructure alone will drive the need for more skilled workers to fill hundreds of data centres currently being built around Australia.
At the same time worldwide demand for cooling has never been greater.
Cooling demand is set to triple by 2050. What does that mean? It means the total number of installed air conditioners will top 6.5 billion, up from two billion today.
It isn’t just aircon installations that will be growing. Australia’s population will reach 40 million people by 2050.
What an exciting time for anyone working in HVACR. Job prospects are exceptional, employment guaranteed for decades to come.
Who wouldn’t want to be a part of this industry? This sentiment was made abundantly clear to me when I interviewed this year’s Top 20 Women in HVACR.
Their optimism was contagious, it pervaded every conversation.
These women are excited about where the industry is heading.
They are certainly embracing AI. They are inspired by sustainable building design and keen to see Australia transition to low GWP refrigerants.
The future is bright. Everyone is moving in the same direction with a very real sense of purpose. Let’s make it happen. ✹
