A hybrid workshop to discuss the future of Building Performance Simulation (BPS) professionals will be held at Building Simulation 2025 next month.
To be held from August 24-27 at the Brisbane Convention Centre, the conference will run concurrently with ARBSQLD which will be held from August 27-28, 2025.
The hybrid session will be led by Professor Ian Beausoleil-Morrison of Carleton University in Canada.
He will deliver a presentation which will be followed by a panel discussion to identify gaps in the way industry and educators prepare the next generation of BPS professionals.
Professor Beausoleil-Morrison’s research interests include solar housing, micro-cogeneration, seasonal storage of solar thermal energy, and understanding and controlling occupant behaviour.
He teaches courses on Building Performance Simulation (MECH 5205), Thermodynamics (MAAE 3400), and Sustainable Energy Engineering for Policy Students (SERG 5002).
University professors will briefly describe how they teach BPS to undergraduate and graduate students. Following this, practitioners will outline the gaps in the knowledge and skills of new employees and propose solutions.
This will be followed by a panel discussion between the practitioners and academics with a goal of reaching a consensus on how to collectively move forward to improve students for this domain.
Women’s network launch
The International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA) has announced the creation of its very own Women’s Network.
According to the April edition of the IBPSA newsletter, the network will be officially launched at Building Simulation 2025.
The initiative, which was organised by the IBPSA Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) Committee, is designed to connect and empower women who are active in building performance simulation.
The network will organise workshops, networking, awards and mentorship.
