The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) is rolling out digital licenses over the next three months.
Developed in partnership with the Queensland government as part of Queensland’s Digital Licence app, it is being rolled out in stages between September and November, 2025.
The mechanical service licence, including air conditioning and refrigeration, will be available during this time.
It is part of the Queensland government’s commitment to modernise the delivery of services.
A digital licence is the same as a physical QBCC licence, just on a mobile device. It carries the same legal status as the physical licence card, which licensees will still receive.
The digital version is optional and more convenient, secure, and easy to access on a mobile.
The QBCC said the change marks an important step in delivering on its commitment to strengthen the integrity of the industry, streamlining compliance, and supporting a modern, digitally enabled and customer-focused licensing system.
QBCC CEO and Commissioner, Angelo Lambrinos, said the digital licence is part of the organisation's digital transformation and proves the QBCC is listening and responding.
“It is something that the new government promised and something that the industry expects of a modern and contemporary regulator,” Lambrinos said.
