More than than 30 leaders from international cities convened at UNSW Sydney this week for a global conference focused on creating healthier, more sustainable and equitable urban centres.
UNSW Cities Institute and Healthy Cities Australia have been hosting the 11th Global Conference for the Alliance of Healthy Cities from 1-3 September at the UNSW Kensington Campus.
The conference will examine what creates a healthier city including public health, urban planning, transport, housing, environment and policy.
The event includes expert recommendations from government ministers, city mayors, World Health Organisation representatives and over 500 policymakers from across the globe.
UNSW Cities Institute Scientia senior lecturer, Dr Jinhee Kim, said urbanisation is one of the defining forces of our time.
“The decisions we make to build healthier cities affect not just our individual health but the health of the planet itself,” he said.
The conference features a roundtable later today bringing together state and local government leaders to share insights on the leadership required to navigate rapid urban growth, invest in community infrastructure and commit to public policy that promotes health across all stages of life.
