Vaisala, the global leader in measurement instruments and intelligence for climate action, has launched the Vaisala Indigo Supervisor to simplify environmental monitoring in data centres.

It works by shifting from managing individual sensors to managing measurement networks as a unified system.

The solution lets operators manage up to 100 measurement points as a single system, helping data centres scale environmental monitoring as their infrastructure grows.

As data centres scale to support growing AI workloads, environmental monitoring infrastructure must keep pace.

Higher computing densities and accelerated construction schedules are increasing the need for environmental measurements throughout data centres, including data halls, technical spaces, support areas, and other critical locations.

At the same time, operators have less time for installation, commissioning, and maintenance.

As measurement networks expand, they need ways to deploy, standardise, and maintain environmental monitoring across facilities without adding complexity or slowing project timelines.

The Vaisala Indigo Supervisor simplifies this process by letting operators manage measurement networks as a unified system of up to 100 measurement points rather than as individual sensors. Its local touchscreen interface can also integrate with a building management system (BMS) through a single standardised connection.

This system-level approach lets operators deploy environmental monitoring consistently across sites, scale it over time, integrate it into building management systems, and manage it efficiently throughout its lifecycle.

Anu Kätkä, product line manager for HVAC and critical buildings at Vaisala, said AI is accelerating data centre growth at a pace that is changing how supporting infrastructure is deployed, managed and scaled.

“When a facility contains dozens or hundreds of measurement points, environmental monitoring can no longer be managed one sensor at a time," she said.

"Operators need a system-level approach that can be commissioned efficiently, maintained without disrupting operations, and scaled consistently as capacity expands.”

The Indigo Supervisor complements Vaisala’s growing data centre offering.

Together, these capabilities support the reliable and efficient operation of increasingly dense and rapidly expanding data centre infrastructure.

While designed with the scalability requirements of modern data centres in mind, the Indigo Supervisor is also suited to environments where environmental monitoring must be managed efficiently across multiple sensing locations.

These include cleanrooms, greenhouses, cold storage facilities, laboratories, and industrial process environments.

The Indigo Supervisor:

  • acts as a host unit for Vaisala daisy-chained compact measurement probes
  • supports up to two independent probe chains with up to 50 probes per chain
  • is compatible with Vaisala XMP10, HMP110, HMP113, and TMP115 probes
  • supports commissioning through web-based tools
  • supports probe replacement through the touchscreen interface
  • provides local dashboards, measurement visibility, alert management, and calibration information
  • integrates with building management systems through Modbus TCP
  • lets operators export system configurations as CSV files to support commissioning and multi-site deployment
  • expected to be available in early 2027.
