Munters is expanding its production facility in Virginia, United States to meet the rapidly evolving demands of the data centre industry.

President of the data centre technologies business division at Munters, Stefan Aspman, said this demand has pushed the company to continuously advance its technology.

“By expanding our Virginia facility to include chiller production, we’re strengthening our ability to serve the US market and capture more of its growth offering a comprehensive portfolio of technical solutions,” Aspman said.

Chillers are a foundational technology for cooling in many fields including data centres. Currently, production of complete chilled water solutions for both liquid and air cooling are manufactured in Italy through Geoclima, which was recently acquired by Munters.

With the new state-of-the-art facility in Virginia, set to be completed in Q2 2026, Munters is strengthening its regional supply, increasing capacity, and reducing lead times in the world´s largest and most strategically important data centre market.

The enlargement, which was first announced March 26, 2025, adds 200,000 square feet (18,580 m²) of production space to the adjacent lot of the current factory and includes a new test laboratory for chillers.

In total, the new production facility will cover 565,000 square feet (52,000 m²).

The data centre cooling market is projected to reach $US100.12 billion by 2035 from $25.77 billion in 2024, growing at a CAGR of 12.55 per cent during the forecast period 2025-2035.

Research and Markets released a report on the data centre cooling market which is witnessing substantial growth, fuelled by the increasing demand for data storage, processing, and cloud computing services.

The market has been heavily influenced by the rising need for energy-efficient and sustainable technologies, driven by both environmental concerns and stringent regulations aimed at reducing carbon footprints.

“Industries are adopting cutting-edge cooling technologies such as liquid cooling and AI-driven systems to address growing power demands while complying with stringent environmental regulations,” the report said.

“Additionally, the rising emphasis on green building certifications and eco-friendly operations is driving the demand for energy-efficient cooling solutions across industries. “

Asia-Pacific is one of the largest data centre markets in the world due to enormous industrial and commercial enterprises that have significantly impacted the demand for data centres in the region.
