Actrol has been fined more than half a million dollars for falsely blaming price rises on the carbon tax.
The Federal Court has ordered Actrol Parts Pty Ltd to pay a $520,000 fine plus $50,000 towards the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's (ACCC) costs.
The ACCC said Actrol made false representations in a letter posted on its website and sent to around 8,000 customers as the carbon tax came into effect in July 2012.
However, the false representations were made when Actrol was owned by Catalyst Investment Managers.
Since then the company has since been acquired by plumbing giant Reece. As a result CCN understands that the fine is being paid by its former owners, Catalyst Investment Managers.
