The Asia Pacific region had the highest rate of air conditioning sales in 2011, topping $48.2 billion or 55 per cent of the world market.

Within the region, China and Japan represent the biggest markets, accounting for 83 per cent.

Around 70 per cent of the world’s air conditioners were produced in China in 2011, according to the World Market for Air Conditioning Report.

Overall the world market for air conditioning increased from $US78bn in 2010 to $88.2bn in 2011.
