ASHRAE President (US) William Banhfleth this week confirmed his attendance at ARBS 2014.
Banhfleth will deliver his presentation on Thursday, May 22, 2014. His presentation will cover energy efficiency in buildings and how to maintain indoor air quality in this new environment.
In the age of green buildings it is a critical topic. Buildings are one of the largest energy end use sectors in countries around the globe.
Concerns for the availability of energy supplies and the impact of energy use on the environment are driving a worldwide focus on energy end use reduction.
In this push for dramatic changes in the energy use intensity of the building sector, it is essential that the fundamental importance of indoor environmental quality, particularly indoor air quality, not be lost.
This presentation addresses: 1) the significance of indoor air quality in terms of its impact on health and productivity and associated costs; 2) the linkage between indoor air quality and building energy demands, including examples of efficient technologies for maintaining good indoor air quality; and 3) the need for an approach to building research, design, and operation that recognises this connection.
Banhfleth is passionate about this topic and is the professor and director of the Indoor Environment Center in the Department of Architectural Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University (University Park) in the United States.
He holds a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a Registered Professional Engineer.
With more than 30 years experience as a consulting engineer, researcher and educator, Dr. Bahnfleth is expected to be a higlight of ARBS 2014.
He has been a member of ASHRAE since 1981 and is an ASHRAE Fellow and Distinguished Lecturer.
