Local manufacturer, Specialized Engineering, is planning an expansion into the eastern states of Australia before moving into South East Asia and the Middle East.

The ambitious plans are further proof of the company's rapid growth since it was established in 2008. Based in Western Australia, Specialized Engineering, manufactures high efficiency packaged air conditioners for almost every commercial, industrial, marine and offshore application.

The company's managing director, Chris Miller, said its HyperFlex packaged air conditioners with EC fan technology are a great choice for both new and retrofit projects.

“We currently have 17 staff and undertake inhouse research and development withour own test facilities,” Miller said.

“Every one of our models exceed the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) and we use refrigerants with zero ozone depleting potential.

“Testing shows energy savings of up to 31 per cent compared to existing APAC equivalent units.

“Our systems are a perfect replacement for APAC units as they use exactly the same footprint, duct work, mains power and controls, so there are no expensive modification costs.”

Specialized Engineering has 60 models from 012 to 190kW with remote air cooled packages from 012kW to 095kW.

Each Hyperflex unit has fully hermetic scroll compressors which are designed with internal isolation and have internal thermal line break, current overload and high pressure differential protection.

“For increased reliability, all models come with a suction line accumulator in each refrigerant circuit. This preventive measure stops liquid refrigerant entering the compressor during start mode in low ambient cooling, while switching in and out of defrost, and between heating and cooling modes,” Miller said.

“The Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV) on each refrigerant circuit helps provide optimum performance across the entire unit operating range.”

IBISWorld research shows that only the most competitive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have survived the tough economic climate in Australia in recent years.

“The industry has faced high and steady competition from imports over the past five years leading to some domestic firms outsourcing production to Asian countries in a bid to improve margins,”  IBISWorld said.

For the OEMs that have survived IBISWorld attributes their success to strong branding and the high quality of locally made products.
