Australia's solar industry has passed an important milestone with over one million small-scale solar photovaltaic systems in place.
This means that about 2.5 million Australians live under rooftops with solar power.
In 2007 solar was a niche industry with only 7,472 small-scale solar systems in place and an estimated 339 accredited installers across the country.
Today over 2,000 systems are installed each week, compared to 45 a week in 2007, according to figures released today by the Federal Government.
Moreover, the number of accredited installers has grown to around 4,800 and employment in the solar industry has grown more than eight-fold during this period.
Government figures show the upfront cost of solar has dropped from around $14/W to $3/W
