Fujitsu’s Noble Park Data Centre in Melbourne has achieved a NABERS Energy rating for data centres, the first in Australia

It has been certified using the NABERS data centres tools and has been assessed as a four star facility, which is a good performance on the NABERS six star scale.

NABERS is a national rating system that measures energy efficiency, water usage, waste management and indoor air quality within the built environment.

NABERS ratings have been incorporated into numerous policy targets, and some assets in the commercial office building sector are required to disclose their NABERS Energy rating under Commonwealth legislation.

Fujitsu A/NZ CEO, Mike Foster said NABERS is a comprehensive and trusted assessment which validates Fujitsu’s application of best practices in this area.

“We have made significant investments in our data centre infrastructure in Australia including a recent upgrade of the Noble Park facility,” he said.

“We are pleased to be awarded a 4 star NABERS rating, which is an excellent reflection of the focus we have placed on this important aspect of our business.”

The metropolitan branch of the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage delivers the NABERS program across Australia.

Branch director, Tom Grosskopf, said the rating is excellent news for the data centre industry, for businesses and for the environment.

“By rating its facility with NABERS Energy for data centres, Fujitsu is demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and helping to make efficient centres the industry standard,” he said.

Green Global Consulting undertook the six month infrastructure audit for the NABERS certification.

Its founder and CEO, Bob Sharon, said this achievement is due acknowledgement of Fujitsu’s understanding that efforts to reduce carbon emissions and pollution can also be used to boost the bottom line.

“Our organisation was delighted to have the opportunity to work with Fujitsu to combine our shared vision for the planet. And we are honoured to be part of this Australian first,” he said.

Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand was recognised earlier this month by the Longhaus Australian Data Centre Providers Pulse 2013-2014 report with two awards: The Peak Vendor Award for the most comprehensive data centre offering and the Green Star Award for market leading sustainability practices.

Fujitsu data centres have a power usage effectiveness (PUE) target of 1.6 and the company reports all greenhouse gas emissions produced by Noble Park, as well as all others in its Australian data centre network, to the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting System (NGERS).
