The federal government has appointed Ian Hanger AM QC to assist with mediation and the settlement of compensation for families and small businesses affected by the failed Home Insulation Program.
Hanger oversaw the Royal Commission into the Home Insulation Program in his role as Commissioner. His new appointment provides continuity for the families of the four men who died.
Hanger's understanding of the ongoing distress and anguish facing the families means he is uniquely placed to assist in the speedy provision of compensation.
Similarly, his understanding of the hardship faced by affected insulation businesses means that all concerned can have confidence that the process will be approached as he recommended.
The Government will be releasing its full response to the Report of the Royal Commission into the Home Insulation Program by the end of the year.
Representatives of the families and affected business have expressed confidence in Hanger's knowledge of the issues.
In addition to undertaking the Royal Commission, Hanger QC has participated in over 3,000 mediations during the course of his career.
Hanger was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1984 and a Member of the Order of Australia in 2007.
