To help employers understand their responsibilities under recent changes to Work Health and Safety legislation, the Airconditioning and Mechanical Contractors Association (AMCA) has launched a DVD to assist industry.
The DVD is supported by the National Fire Industry Association (NFIA), the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) with funding provided by the Department of Employment Education and Workplace Relations (DEWR).
AMCA executive director David Eynon said the aim of the DVD is to provide an overview of the major changes to the new Work Health and Safety laws.
“It also provides specific information on the current topical issue of working at heights, specifically the safe use of ladders,” he said.
When a ladder is chosen as a means of a working platform there are a number of criteria that need to be considered such as selection, condition, positioning, access or egress and a Safe Work Method Statement on the safe use of ladders and workers need to be trained on their use.
All of these considerations are covered in the DVD.
Under the new laws, an employer is now known as a Person who Conducts a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) and this DVD addresses practical steps that can be taken as a PCBU.
Supporting documentation is also available for each state and territory from sites such as Safe Work Australia, NSW WorkCover and WorkSafe Victoria.
