The very first Green Star – Performance rating has been awarded to the GPT Group for 800 Bourke Street in Melbourne.

The commercial office, fully tenanted by National Australia Bank (NAB), has achieved a 4 Star Green Star – Performance rating, representing 'best practice' in sustainable building operations.

GPT's head of asset management, Matthew Faddy said the company now has a sustainability measurement in the market for the performance of its assets.

"Not only does it allow us to benchmark our assets with thoe of our peers but it also assists us to drive consistent, sustainable design outcomes across the business," he said.

800 Bourke Street's operational performance was assessed against nine Green Star categories - management, indoor environment quality, energy, transport, water, materials, land use and ecology, emissions and innovation.

NAB's head of environmental sustainability, Nicola Murphy said the GPT/NAB partnership has delivered significant results including a 29 per cent reduction in energy consumption over the last two years.

"This is a great example of what can be achieved when two organisations who recognise the importance and value of sustainability come together to find smarter ways of doing things," she said.
