Importers of Synthetic Greenhouse Gases (SGGs) face stiff penalties for failing to pass on carbon tax repeal savings.
Under new amendments included in the carbon tax repeal legislation, the government has tightened compliance measures for gas importers who will face penlties of 250 per cent for not passing on savings.
They will have a year to pass on the savings, or face tough fines.
The House of Representatives passed the repeal bills for the third time last night after a deal between PUP Senator, Clive Palmer and the government which guarantees the full savings of axing the carbon tax is passed on to consumers.
The redrafted amendments and legislation will go before the senate in the next couple of days.
Clive Palmer has agreed to pass the legislation in the Senate which means the carbon tax should be removed by the end of this week.
Gas wholesalers said it was too early to comment on the repeal penalties, instead choosing to withold comment until the legislation passed the senate.
