Government funding is being made available in the United States to help low income earners buy air conditioners.
In New York air conditioners are considered essential for those with medical conditions that are exacerbated by extreme heat.
The Cooling assistance Component of the New York State Office of temporary and disability Assistance's Home energy assistance Program (HEAP) will begin on May 1, 2014.
Governor Andrew Cuomo said $3 million will be made available for air conditioners and invited eligible families to apply.
"This is a critical resource for those with medical needs to get air conditioning and maintain a healthy living environment," he said.
Meanwhile in other parts of the US, Trane will take its heating and air conditioning equipment on tour hitting the road with two semi-trailers filled with the latest HVAC products.
Dubbed the Acceleration Now tour it will provide commercial customers with an opportunity to see its new energy efficient chillers, heat pumps, air conditioners and other systems first hand.
Trane created the tour because its executive customers and installers are too busy to travel, the company said.
