As part of the Talent Pipeline Building Program 37 of the brightest engineering talent from Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand came together for an innovative training program.
The program is all about supporting robust business growth plans in Asia and investing in human capital.
Emerson Network Power's vice president of service and project management, Chris Mandahl, said the company looks to the innovation and ingenuity of its people as the driving force of its success.
"As the demand for our solutions in Asia grows, we are reinforcing our arsenal with young, fresh talent to continue to produce pioneering enterprise solutions while expanding our sales and service functions to better serve our customers,” he said.
The company's senior director for HR, Yvonne Teo, said trainees are given the unique opportunity to learn from expert engineers and managers across the Asia Pacific.
"To make sure the company has the brightest engineering talent to better serve our customers from providing solutions to technical consultancy and service, the trainees went through a series of very stringent tests before making it into the program,”Teo said.
Participants are studying power, thermal and monitoring applications for engineering in classroom training sessions and are assisting senior engineers and managers in project-based work.
Designed to simulate real-life business and engineering challenges, rigorous assessments are employed at each stage to push the learning potential of each participant.
Maximizing learning and focusing on core strengths, the initiative focuses on two streams: the Graduate Engineer Trainee stream and the Customer Engineer Program track.
The Graduate Engineers focus on solution sales and technical consultancy , and went to Manila, Philippines and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a total of eight weeks to undergo training from product and solutions experts.
They also visited the Emerson Network Power Smart Solution Centre and factory in Shenzhen, China to train on product application and service basics.
Customer engineers received product trainings in the Philippines and are set to undergo more training in Thailand, Singapore and Australia. The program has also opened doors for customer engineers in Australia, who have been commissioned to participate in the prestigious apprenticeship program of the New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland State Governments alongside the Emerson training.
Graduate engineer for Emerson Network Power in the Philippines, John Emerson Mangalili, said the program has provided great opportunities and unforgettable experiences.
"The program has given me a wealth of knowledge that I can’t imagine receiving in any other organization," he said.
"It allowed me to develop innovative and strategic thinking, and pushed me to hone my interpersonal skills. The interactive nature of the program also allowed me to be exposed to best practices and real-life experiences of my classmates and mentors who come from different parts of Asia Pacific."
The Graduate Engineer Program ends in September 2015, while the Customer Engineer Program ends in March 2017.
