Heat pumps are finally breaking through on a large scale, according to Lux Research director, Arij van Berkel.

“Having been the promise of the industry for four decades, it seems their era is finally arriving,” he said.

In a paper identifying trends shaping the HVACR industry, van Berkel said there are a number of factors driving the heat pump market.

“This trend is driven by significant advances in heat pump technology and decreasing electricity prices, as well as concern about carbon emissions," he said.

Identifying trends on the equipment level, van Berkel said another trend is towards more versatile equipment, and again this is driving mostly heat pump applications. He said there is a large emerging base of customers wishing to switch energy sources.

“Drop-in replacements of heat pumps for gas, oil, or coal fired systems provide a real opportunity for equipment suppliers,” van Berkel said.

Based in Europe, van Berkel will travel to Australia to deliver the keynote address at this year's CCN Live breakfast event on August 2, 2016.

He will be supported by the research firm's managing director for APAC, Cort Isernhagen, who will talk about local and regional trends shaping the market.

Their expert research will also be made available to attendees at the CCN Live 2016 so don't miss out it will be the most informative event of the year.
