To keep up with rising subscribers and demand for value-added services, Facebook has partnered with Emerson Network Power to start work on a rapid deployment centre.

The facility incorporates a number of modular design elements, including pre-fabricated materials and onsite assembly, which will enable an increase in the speed of deployment and reduction in material use.

The site in Sweden will span 125,000 square feet and will require over 250 shippable modules from Emerson, including power skids, evaporative air handlers, a water treatment plant, and data centre superstructure solutions.

Emerson’s global business leader, Scott Barbour, said the new site will be one of the most efficient and sustainable data centres in the world, powered by 100 per cent renewable energy. It also features the latest in Open Compute Project server, storage, mechanical and electrical designs.

“This collaboration with Facebook illustrates our competencies in modular construction and showcases next-generation thinking,” he said.

It will be built next to Facebook’s first data centre building, which came online in June 2013.
