French company Arkema has announced plans to build a R-1234yf refrigerant gas production plant.
The company said the plant will reassure the automotive industry and let them know that the refrigerant will be available in commercial quantities to meet the phase down of R134a.
Arkema availability and supply is important for car manufacturers to make the transition to the next generation refrigerant.
The plant is expected to be operational in 2016.
Daimler has refused to use the new refrigerant claiming safety tests have raised flammability questions and its use is not safe.
