The nation now has its very own Australian Supply Chain Sustainability School operating to help the construction sector fast-track its green skills base.
The national initiative, which is jointly funded by industry and the state governments of New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, is based on the successful Supply Chain School currently operating in the United Kingdom.
It provides an online learning forum designed to help the construction sector build critical mass and expand its sustainability knowledge and skills base.
The school is freely available to any supplier in the construction industry, providing resources from e-learning modules and case studies through to check lists and guides
Founding industry partners include: DownerTenix; Dulux Group; Infrastructure Sustainability Council Australia; John Holland; Laing O'Rourke; McConnell Dowell; Mirvac; Stockland; Net Balance Foundation; and Action Sustainability.
Green Building Council of Australia chief operating officer, Robin Mellon, said the GBCA is proud to be a founding partner of the School.
“The Green Building Council of Australia has been at the forefront of our industry’s transformation for more than a decade – but we understand that accelerating the update of sustainable building practices requires an industrywide
approach," he said.
“The construction industry’s greatest strength lies in its commitment to collaboration. Partnership is the new leadership, and our nation’s sustainable future rests on the ability of everyone in the industry to advance their knowledge and skills."
Mirvac’s procurement manager for construction and co-chair for the Australian Supply Chain Sustainability School, Roderick Petre, said the goal is to engage the whole supply chain across the building and infrastructure sectors.
"By working together, we can achieve greater efficiencies, advance sustainable building practices and deliver long-term benefits for our industry and our nation.”
