The air conditioning and refrigeration section at Granville TAFE has introduced a new controls course in partnership with Innotech Control Systems Australia.

The head teacher for RAC trades at Granville TAFE, Brian Mobbs, said the course is designed for people looking to gain a fundamental understanding of control processes and the application of direct digital controls (DDC) in the HVAC&R sector.

He said the course is also suitable for individuals wishing to enter the field of building management systems (BMS) controls servicing and engineering.

The first course will be conducted over two full days on May 29-30  at a cost of $550 per person.

Upon completion of the course, students will receive a statement of attainment – UEENEEI157A: Configure and maintain industrial control systems networks.

The course encompasses safe working practices, bus monitoring and system management and access, network testing and documenting system settings.

Students undertaking the course must already hold the competency standard unit UEENEEE101A: Apply OHS regulations, codes and practices in the workplace or equivalent.

"Applicants who hold a trade certificate or certificate III in refrigeration, or are trade qualified in an allied trade, meet entry requirements," Mobbs said.

Earlier this year, Granville TAFE presented a certificate of appreciation to Bitzer and Danfoss for recent donations they have made to support students.

Danfoss donated $40,000 worth of equipment including complete condensing units, TX valves, plate heat exchangers, compressors, soft starters, PM valves, solenoids and various controls, while Bitzer donated ammonia chillers.

The certificate was presented to Peter O'Neill of Danfoss and Daniel Stattmann of Bitzer.

Mobbs said TAFE would also like to thank Sanden for a CO2 heat pump, ABB Baker, which donated a freezer utilising hydrocarbon as its refrigerant, while Daikin and Fujitsu have provided air conditioning units.

The TAFE has also been busy preparing Mitchell Barron for the upcoming international WorldSkills competition in Germany.

Barron has been attending Granville TAFE a couple of nights a week in preparation for the competition and is supported by his  employer, Tri-Tech Refrigeration.
