Western Sydney TAFE has won a Green Gown Award for sustainability.
The TAFE and Smaller Institutions Award was presented to Western Sydney Institute (WSI) for its holistic approach to sustainability.
The award was presented at the Australasian Green Gown Awards event in Brisbane last month.
TAFE's director of education for sustainability, Sharon Kerr said that the award recognises the energetic way that WSI has adopted sustainability.
“Sustainability for us is more than just fixing leaking taps – it is an all-encompassing philosophy which guides the way we teach, what we teach and all of the processes which underpin these activities,” Kerr said.
“As well as leading by example through reducing our carbon footprint, we are helping to shape sustainable communities, foster greener and leaner technologies and develop graduates who can take the sustainability mission out with them wherever their qualifications take them.
“One of our great privileges as a vocational education and training institute is to impart skills which relate directly to employment.
"Through these practical skills we have an opportunity to influence many workplaces and in doing so sustainability principles are being adopted by many industries.”
