Applications are now open for bulk HFC import quota for the 2026–27 licence period.
The Australian Government is inviting applications for the 2026–2027 bulk hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) import quota.
This is part of Australia’s ongoing work to protect the environment and meet commitments under the Montreal Protocol.
To maintain market stability, the allocation process will follow the same approach as previous years:
- 95% of the quota will be allocated to existing importers under the grandfathered quota arrangements (regs 46 and 50).
- 5% will be available as non-grandfathered quota, equally distributed among eligible new or occasional importers (regs 46 and 51).
Applications for quota will close 11:59pm on August 7, 2025.
The department is considering a consultative review for the 2028–2029 allocation and will seek stakeholder feedback on the future of non-grandfathered quota distribution.
