The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) has introduced its new brand identity to reaffirm its mission to foster collaboration and enhance knowledge on all aspects of refrigeration and heat pump technologies.

IIR director general, Yosr Allouche, said refrigeration is not just a resource; it is a fundamental right.

“It protects lives, preserves food and supports economies, yet it is often invisible. Today, we highlight the urgency not just to recognise its importance, but to turn science into action,” he said.

“Our new brand is an embodiment of this objective. The IIR supports decision-makers, industry stakeholders, and the international scientific community through technical recommendations, the development and dissemination of evidence-based information, expert consultations, scientific conferences, and capacity-building programs.”

The new logo brings together the defining pillars of the organisation; science, policy and industry symbolised by the dots around the periphery of the logo which are separated from the rest of the logo to highlight the institute’s independency; global reach, expressed through the world motif; and cold, represented by the snowflake.

Within the centre of the logo is a vertical equals sign which symbolises the need for all nations to have equal access to not just refrigeration resources but also efficient refrigeration equipment.

For the first time, the IIR introduced distinct English and French versions of the logo, to ensure clarity across its two official languages.

As the signature of its manifesto video, the IIR's tagline, Science of cold in action, underlines the institute's belief that refrigeration science and knowledge have an essential role to play in advancing human well-being, animal welfare, food safety and quality, public health and global economic development while addressing climate change issues.

The IIR has also restructured its membership framework around five pillars: network, science, data, policy and action, to ensure that all members benefit from clearer value and stronger engagement within the network.

New membership benefits include priority to join and speak at webinars on technical innovations, access to information on new policies and regulations, enhanced visibility and event participation opportunities for corporate members, priority to join as experts in IIR’s R&D and international cooperation projects for private members.

To further strengthen engagement across its network, the IIR is launching a series of webinars throughout 2026, to help members better understand how to leverage the IIR’s platform and exchange with peers across the global community.
