Australian industrial refrigeration leader Oomiak has embarked on an international expansion targeting the Asian market.

The Adelaide-based company, which specialises in the design and installation of industrial refrigeration, has opened a Malaysian office in Kuala Lumpur in response to growing demand from South East Asia.

Oomiak CEO, Cate McGuire, said the company is excited to spread its wings on the global stage having consolidated a national presence throughout Australia.

“We’ve experienced a significant increase in demand from the Asian market for high quality industrial refrigeration systems, so opening an office in the region is a logical step forward,” she said.

“The Asian market has a rapidly growing appetite for fresh fruit and vegetables, and with that comes the need to adequately cool and store produce to ensure it maintains maximum freshness for customers.

“Our leading-edge industrial refrigeration equipment and fresh produce ripening systems, as well as the expert advice we give to clients, has been extremely well received in Asia.

“We see enormous growth in the region over the next decade, so this is a really exciting move for us that is testament to the high quality benchmarks we’ve put in place.”

Since it was established in 2006, Oomiak has developed an outstanding reputation for its expertise in the design and manufacture of industrial and commercial refrigeration.

From its headquarters in Adelaide and customer service centres in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, and now Kuala Lumpur, the company concentrates on the delivery of major capital projects where it fully designs, fabricates and installs industrial and commercial refrigeration systems for clients.

Oomiak also specialises in preventative maintenance of all types of refrigeration systems to help clients maximise operational efficiencies and plant life expectancy, while minimising unplanned outages and plant operating costs.

Employing 60 staff across the Asia Pacific, Oomiak currently turns over more than $20 million a year, servicing a broad range of clients across various industries, including fresh produce, food processing, supermarkets, marine, dairy, wine, cold storage, mining and manufacturing.

Its client list includes Woolworths, Aldi, Metcash, Ingham’s, d’Arenberg, Balfours, Vili’s, Goodman Fielder, Boral, Hilton Foods, Rand Transport, Austal Ships, Asahi and Mitani.

The company’s completed projects this year include a $3.8 million regional distribution centre project for Woolworths in Launceston, and a $1.2 million ripening room upgrade for LaManna Premier Group in Brisbane.

Oomiak is also currently working on two other major projects in Brisbane: a $10 million refrigerant replacement project for Arnott’s Biscuits, and a $1.4 million cold store project for Linfox.
