The Safe Monitoring Group (SMG) has just acquired its first North American-based company, Gastronics, a pioneer in wireless gas detection systems.

SMG has now acquired eight gas detection brands and several value-add service companies.

The acquisition further expands SMG’s gas detection capabilities and strengthens the group’s presence across industrial, commercial, refrigeration and process markets.

Established more than 25 years ago, Gastronics is established across a range of industries including chemical processing, oil and gas, utilities and critical infrastructure, areas where detection and monitoring is essential for safety, compliance and operational continuity.

Gastronics pioneered the industry’s first True Wireless Gas Detection system, enabling real-time gas monitoring from remote and hard-to-reach locations without the need for hardwired infrastructure.

SMG Americas president, Kevin McKeigue, said the acquisition of Gastronics significantly expands Safe Monitoring Group’s global footprint and positions the company for accelerated growth in North America.

“Gastronics brings a strong customer base in both North America and the Middle East, while adding complementary gas sensing technologies, detection solutions, and regulatory certifications that enhance our ability to serve industrial and energy markets worldwide,” he said.

Gastronics founder & CEO, Bud Dungan, said the acquisition is an exciting next chapter for both brands.

This transaction provides access to a global manufacturing platform, expanded supply chain capabilities, and a broad sales network,” Dungan said.

“With a shared commitment to innovation, we look forward to accelerating new product development and expanding application-specific certifications across our portfolio.”
