The Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) serves as the national licensing authority for the refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) industry.
Responsible for overseeing the ARCTick licensing scheme, the ARC licenses over 114,000 technicians and businesses to handle and trade refrigerant gases regulated under the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Regulations 1995.
The ARCTick scheme is internationally recognised and plays an essential role in regulating the acquisition, possession, disposal, and handling of ozone-depleting substances and synthetic greenhouse gases, as well as the equipment containing these materials.
The ARC delivers the scheme in a co-regulatory model with industry and government, through a targeted mix of initiatives, including licensing for businesses and technicians, education-led field engagement visits, support for vocational training, and outreach to consumers through publications, digital platforms, and campaigns.
ARC will be present at Stand 786, offering insights into the latest developments within the RAC sector, including the updated Code of Practice, ongoing field engagement visits, and enhancements to the permit application system.
Visitors are encouraged to meet ARC representatives and the field engagement team to learn about ongoing improvements and programs.
ARC is currently running two pilot programs, one focusing on field engagement visits for Refrigerant Handling Licence (RHL) holders, and the other developing retail partnerships to promote the use of licensed technicians for air conditioning installation and decommissioning within the retail sector.
