In a major advancement for Australia’s commercial HVAC sector, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Air-Conditioners Australia (MHIAA) has launched the KXZ3 Series – a next-generation R32 Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system redefining performance, flexibility, and sustainability.
Although it is new to the market the KXZ3 has already earned national recognition, receiving the Australian Good Design Award “Green Tick” accolade in the Engineering Design category.
This early achievement highlights Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ (MHI) reputation for innovation-led design and precision engineering.
“At MHIAA, we take pride in bringing world-class Japanese engineering to Australian professionals who are shaping the future of our built environment,” says Akihiro Nakajima, Managing Director of MHIAA. “The KXZ3 is the culmination of decades of MHI research and development – engineered for performance, reliability, and a greener future.”
Smarter control
At its core, the KXZ3 utilises R32 refrigerant, reducing CO₂-equivalent emissions by around 70% compared with R410A. A new scroll compressor and redesigned heat-exchanger drastically improves energy efficiency and performance.
The system’s standout feature is the VTCC+ (Variable Temperature and Capacity Control Plus) capability, which automatically adjusts refrigerant pressure and compressor operation according to indoor demand.
By fine-tuning output under partial-load conditions, VTCC+ enhances energy efficiency, stabilises temperature control, and ensures superior comfort – particularly in buildings with varying load profiles.
The KXZ3 also delivers an expanded operating range, performing reliably from –25 °C to 52 °C to meet the challenges of Australia’s tough climate. Its advanced continuous heating function also eliminates defrost interruptions, maintaining a steady warm airflow and consistent comfort throughout winter.
For technicians, improved serviceability was a key design focus. The internal layout allows easier access to electrical components and refrigerant circuits, while modular design and simplified wiring reduce installation time and maintenance requirements.
Future-Ready
Offering modular capacities up to 100.5 kW, the KXZ3 provides exceptional flexibility for commercial projects. Its small footprint and refined exterior design allow it to integrate seamlessly into any construction project, supporting architects and consultants seeking space-efficient, aesthetically balanced systems.
With high part-load efficiency, optional R32 safety accessories, and compatibility with a wide range of indoor units, the KXZ3 supports buildings targeting improved NABERS performance and long-term operational savings.
The KXZ3 places safety at the forefront, offering a comprehensive range of R32-specific control systems and accessories.
Optional refrigerant leak detectors, shut-off valve kits and proprietary controllers with safety alarms are all available and are designed to integrate seamlessly to ensure compliance with local standards and provide peace of mind through smart, reliable protection for any commercial application.
Combining intelligent control, environmental performance, and long-term serviceability, the KXZ3 Series embodies MHI’s philosophy of “Engineering for a Better Tomorrow.”
It’s a future-ready VRF system built to help Australia’s HVAC professionals deliver sustainable comfort and efficiency across every project.
