Desiree Mumby is installation manager/engineering manager at Coral Air.
Desiree has more than 30 years experience in the HVACR industry but says she is still learning. “I have really only had one position in the industry as I own my own company,” she explains.
During this time she has engineered and managed projects ranging in value from $20,000 to $2.5 million. “I get huge job satisfaction from taking a project right through from concept designs through to construction, commissioning and project completion,” she says.
“I take great pride in working outside the box to achieve the best outcomes for clients.” Desiree says working in HVACR is challenging so there is plenty of job satisfaction.
Desiree believes a person with skills gets respect in the workplace regardless of gender. This is particularly true in a technical environment.
What makes Desiree’s career even more remarkable is knowing that earlier in her career she was known as Des. She became Desiree after transitioning from male to female five years ago.
Working in such a male dominated industry, she admits it was no easy walk in the park. It certainly makes Desiree a pioneer and one of the most courageous women working in HVACR.
