Ame Murray is a third year refrigeration and air conditioning apprentice at Woolworths.

“I am only starting out in my career but I look forward to pioneering a pathway for women in trades, especially in HVACR,” Ame says.  She believes empowering women to pursue a career in trades is important and few would know this better than Ame who took on an apprenticeship as a single mother.

“It is challenging but the rewards far outweigh the hurdles,” she says. “I have pushed myself to learn which is necessary in this trade because it is always evolving. The learning never ends.”

Ame was nominated by her supervisor and managers who believe she has a big future at the company. According to her peers Ame’s perseverance is unmatched by any technician on the job.

“Despite the obstacles and challenges she faces with two young boys, Ame works hard and never loses sight of what she is achieving in her apprenticeship,” they said. “She is a strong member of the team and her value goes beyond what she can do with her hands on the job.”

Ame’s supervisor believes she can help reduce the gender gap and be a role model and trainer for future female apprentices.
