For six years ABB has been promoting Australia’s young achievers as sponsor of the Male and Female Rising Star Awards.

HVAC segment manager, ABB Drives, Paul Burrows, said attracting emerging talent and developing their skills as future leaders is key to the ongoing success of ABB and the entire industry.

“This dual award category resonates very strongly with our focus on nurturing the careers of young men and women at the early stages of their careers,” he said.

It is very much a part of the ABB culture, for example the company’s Graduate Engineering Program (GEP) offers graduate engineers the opportunity to rotate across several functions of the business both locally and overseas. ABB runs apprenticeships for various technical disciplines right throughout its many sites and workshops across Australia.

ABB also supports young indigenous Australians through the Australia Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME). The AIME Program offers indigenous secondary school students a range of educational experiences to assist them with transitioning onto further education or directly into employment.

Commenting on the qualities that make a Rising Star Award winner, Burrows said competition has increased every year.

“Over the years we have observed the level of competition for the Male and Female Rising Star Award categories has increased significantly,” he said.

“In many cases, the winners already have an established profile within the HVACR industry, with some of them already recognised as young ambassadors for the industry.

“Regardless of their interests and pursuits, these aspiring young men and women are the future of the HVACR industry - ABB is very proud to be supporting them on their journey.”
